“The Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Newcastle, Prof Alex Zelinsky awarded Dr Andrea Coda during inaugural ‘Industry Engagement Excellence Award’ night.”
Dr Andrea Coda and his international research team, pioneered, validated and has commercialised (through The University of Newcastle) an innovative web-based platform called ‘Interactive Clinics’ that enables real-time monitoring of crucial diagnostic health indicators. Currently, with the Interactive Clinics App (already available on Apple Store & Google Store) patients (adults and children) can record different health data, such as: pain management, medication adherence, physical activity, blood glucose levels, heart rate and depression scale. Clinical teams and GPs can also send individualised reminders to a patient’s smartphone or smartwatch to motivate them and help being more compliant to the prescribed clinical treatment. Data is then safely shared (using approved servers) in real-time with treating clinicians and allied health teams via the corresponding Interactive Clinics website.
Our award-winning Interactive Clinics health platform has been already:
- Introduced in 4 major hospitals in Spain, serving up to 15,000 patients with chronic diseases.
- NSW Health ethics committee already granted approval to use Interactive Clinics at the: (a) John Hunter Children Hospital, (b) John Hunter Hospital and (c) Westmead & Narrabeen Medical Centre, specifically in: Paediatric Rheumatology, Joint Hypermobility and Type 2 Diabetes. These Pilot Randomised Controlled Trials (RCT) are currently underway.
- As evidence of the quality of our initiative, we recently validated Interactive Clinics functionalities and published in the top-ranking peer-review international journals in digital health – Journal Medical Internet Research (impact factor: 4.945) – (DOI10.2196/13468).
